TreeRover is a tree planting robot with one goal: to plant trees for you! It is the brainchild of two UVic electrical engineering students, Nick Birch and Tyler Rhodes who have a shared passion for the environment and sustainable technologies and together form Iota Technologies.
Both Tyler and Nick hold Diplomas in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (Renewable Energy option) from Camosun College. During their Capstone project (click here) at Camosun, Tyler and Nick developed a home energy monitoring and control system. Two co-op work terms in the marine and forest technology fields have provided each of them with valuable technical experience.
Tyler is an electronics engineering technologist, currently pursuing his electrical engineering degree at the University of Victoria. He has worked as a service technician for Forest Technology Systems, and for the Canadian Coast Guard. Tyler has completed many electronics design projects including a remote-controlled moving target and a micro camper solar PV system. Visit Tyler’s LinkedIn page here.
In 2014 Nick received a Diploma in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology from Camosun College. He is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering (electrical) program at the University of Victoria. During his second co-op work term with the Canadian Coast Guard, he developed a piece of hardware to improve the functionality of the Radio Direction Finders used in marine navigation.
